When to use this template: Use when registering proprietary software source code. The Copyright Office accepts redacted deposits for trade-secret protection -- you submit first 25 + last 25 pages with no more than 50% redacted.

Save the deposit as a single PDF of plain-text source code (NOT a screenshot of an IDE). Include a signed cover statement attesting that the deposit is a true copy of the work and identifying redactions if applicable. ## Notes - Filing fee: $45 (single author) or $65 (online single application). - Registration is required before you can sue for infringement in U.S. federal court. - Statutory damages + attorney fees are only available if registration occurred BEFORE infringement (or within 3 months of first publication for published works).
